Leisure time activities designed for socially vulnerable youth during summer holiday

The thesis deals with the education of youth in leisure time. It focuses on organised leisure events during the summer holidays for at-risk or socially vulnerable youth. The rationale is that meaningful and enriching leisure activities can effectively contribute to this section of youth to deliver stimuli in optimal composition and quantity, helping to socially integrate into the wider community and to build interpersonal relationships. The main aim of this paper is to present a theoretical and practical perspective on this issue. The thesis focuses on actions helping vulnerable or socially disadvantaged youth during the summer holidays. Based on theoretical knowledge in the field of pedagogical influence of leisure, social work and pedagogical research, qualitative research is conducted in the practical part. The main methods of data collection in the research were questionnaires, interviews and self- observation. The aim of the research was to find out the main differences between the approaches of two types of organizations to organizing summer camps for at-risk or socially disadvantaged youth. Cooperation between the volunteer, the client and o. s. Lata - Programy pro ohroženou mládež Abstract: The thesis deals with issues of a voluntary work on field of programmes focused on working with threatened children, adolescents and young adults by form one to one. It's focused on a mentors project running by the citizens' association LATA - Programmes for Threatened Adolescents. It pays attention especially to factors, which can influence the relationship between a volunteer, a client and an organization. It follows up mainly involved volunteers, it puts an aim to description of ways, how the volunteers percieve their work with clients and their organization. Research part of the thesis is focused on analysis of volunteers' statements and has an ambition to catch and reveal important factors, which affect their activities in the organization. This thesis conducts a survey, what motivation and aim the volunteers have, how they percieve their relationships with clients, what helps them to maintain a mentoring role and how they percieve at all the organization they work in
Effectiveness Assessment Options for the "Ve dvou se to lépe táhne" Mentoring Program

This diploma thesis is focused on measurement of effectiveness of the one to one peer coeval mentoring programme "Ve dvou se to lépe táhne" that was designated for youth at risk. The main goal of the thesis is to choose an appropriate way how to measure programme effectiveness and verify the possibility to integrate it with the methodology of the programme. In the introduction of the theoretical part of thesis there are given the definitions of adolescence and changes related with this age, circumstances that threaten youth at risk and the list of programmes, available in the Czech Republic, for youth at risk. Moreover there is introduced the program "Ve dvou se to lépe táhne" and possibilities for evaluation of the programme in particular from the impact on clients point of view. Practical part gives information about the chosen evaluation method and its modification corresponding with particularities of the programme, further describes the implementation stage of the method and finally a pilot version of the modified method on the basis of created questionnaires is assessed.

Animation as a method of work with threatened youth

The thesis called Animation like a method of the work with youth at risk is focused on research of using the animation method in the work with youth at the risk. The target group of the research was selected group of youth which spend their leisure time in the streets of housing estate Vltava in Czech Budweis. The aim of the thesis was finding out the options of field work and pedagogical guidance focused on needs of youth at the risk. The theoretical part contains the summary of knowledge about solved issue which is taken from professional literature. The first chapter pursues to the method of animation, specifically to the development of animation in historical context, to forms of animation and educational animation in detail and to the role of animator in the work with the group. The next chapter summarizes knowledge about period of puberty about somatic, mental and social development of adolescent and development of his identity. This part contains also risk factors which can influence an individual in this period and it contains issue of youth at risk. At the end, the thesis introduces streetwork like extended method of work with youth at risk. The third chapter contains the needs connected to the target group the definition of a need, dividing of the needs and introducing of five basic developmental needs. The practical part presents the process and results of the qualitative research. The main method of data collection was a participant observation focused on the long-term process in the work with group by the method of animation. The notes from the contacts with the participants were coded because of its content and analyzed in the development of the work with the group, in the development of shared topics and level of contacts with the participants. The presentation of results is divided into the two parts. The first part is contained to application of the principles of animation in the work with the group leading of discussion and the topics, getting into the contact with the members of target group and the realisation of the project The street life this project was the top of tracking phase of the thesis. The second part makes the reflection of three selected individual cases. This part is focused on the influence of the method of animation to the individuals. In this part I describe identified needs and influence of animation to these needs. The presentation of results is completed by the reflection of my action in the role of the animator. The discussion summarizes the main detections, it gives them into the context of theoretical knowledge and considers about the development of contacts between the worker and the group, about usefulness of the concept of basic developmental needs and compare principals of animation and principals of streetwork method.
